Porto Recanati is a gem of the Riviera del Conero, with a history that goes beyond simple seaside tourism: here, religious tradition, maritime culture, and popular faith come together in one of the most evocative events on the Marche coast.
According to a local anecdote, one of the most significant moments in Porto Recanati’s maritime history dates back to an ancient shipwreck off the coast. After a particularly violent storm, fishermen found a painting of the Madonna del Soccorso among their nets. The painting was interpreted as a sign of divine protection: the boat carrying it had miraculously survived the shipwreck. From that moment on, the painting became a symbol of devotion and gratitude for the local seafaring community.
Even today, every second Sunday of July, Porto Recanati celebrates the Festa del Mare: a unique procession in which all the local fishing boats sail in the open sea, escorting the painting of the Madonna del Soccorso.
This event highlights a unique aspect of Porto Recanati: an ancient bond with the sea, not only as a place of work or vacation, but as a spiritual and cultural identity.
