With over 11 million visits, 2022 was a record-breaking year for Marche tourism. The latest edition of BIT (International Tourism Exchange), recently held in Milan, saw our region in the spotlight thanks to extraordinary numbers recorded by a sector whose stability had been seriously threatened by the pandemic. The fued immobiliare team participated as a sector operator, with the intention of returning as an exhibitor to this and other fairs. The desire to invest in promotional showcases of this type is incentivized by the figures themselves, which are predicted to be more than positive for summer 2023 as well.
Our agency has already seen a 50% increase in bookings compared to last year: many tourists are returning to choose the Riviera del Conero for their holidays, and many others are booking in advance because they can do so with more peace of mind compared to past seasons. We are undeniably satisfied and have very high expectations given the trend, also because the territory is raising the level of services, as demonstrated by the new domestic and international flight connections active from May. Our team will be ready. We will welcome our guests with our usual enthusiasm and professionalism to ensure they experience a season that promises to be memorable.
This optimism is well-founded, as the signs from last season are an eloquent indicator: the 2,507,756 arrivals and 11,376,381 visits represent an all-time high, even surpassing pre-Covid figures. Compared to 2019, visits and arrivals increased by 3.68% and 9.39% respectively. The increase is even more distinct when considering the 2021 data during the peak Covid period: +21.58% in arrivals and +18.03% in visits. While restrictions in 2022 caused a decrease of 12,417 foreign visits compared to 2019, this was compensated by an increase in Italians: a substantial 988,884 more. Also noteworthy are the data on hospitality structures, which attest to the growing demand for beds.
Accommodation facilities, particularly bed & breakfasts, increased from 8,716 units in 2021 to 10,143 in 2022. Tourists who prefer the Marche are still primarily Italian (Lombardy, Emilia Romagna, Lazio, Veneto, and recently Umbria thanks to new road links), but foreign visitors are also increasing significantly: 399,173 arrivals (+69.31% compared to 2021) and 1,714,808 visits (+65.82%). Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, France, and Belgium are the nationalities of origin with the most significant numbers, though the ongoing growth of British (+235%) and Polish (+125%) visitors is also worth mentioning.
