The Palio of Saint Nicholas

An ancient medieval village overlooking the Riviera del Conero and the Adriatic Sea from an altitude of 125 meters above sea level. One of the longest-standing holders of the Blue Flag, with as many as 30 banners, an important recognition awarded by the Fee Foundation for 37 years. In the heart of the town, there are large green areas and paths to reach Monte Conero or the wild beaches of the Riviera.

This is Sirolo, the Pearl of the Adriatic.

In addition to natural beauty, there is more: history.

The center of Sirolo preserves a good part of the urban structure of the ancient castle built in the 7th century overlooking the sea, of which the village and the two towers remain today. Born for defensive purposes against the invasions of barbarians and pirates, it was later included in the defensive system of the Castelli di Ancona thanks to its particular conformation with a grid road system, alleys, towers, and imposing city walls. In medieval times, Sirolo became an impregnable stronghold and one of the most important meeting places for those monastic orders who found refuge there to escape persecution.

10th edition of the traditional challenge among the districts of Sirolo.
May 9th is San Nicola, and on the occasion of the celebrations for its Patron Saint, the Palio di San Nicola di Bari is held in Sirolo.
The town is divided into 11 districts for what is a festival dedicated to adults and children, including drummers, flag-wavers, ladies and knights in costume, entertainment, and numerous craft stalls.
The double appointment is for Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th May in Sirolo, at the foot of Monte Conero.

It takes place in two moments: the challenge of the districts and the "disfida della canaja." The first consists of a relay race involving the adult inhabitants of the eleven districts; the "disfida della canaja," instead, features the very young, from 11 to 13 years old.

The local neighborhood festivals are the perfect opportunity to get to know the true soul of a city. Sirolo is not just a seaside destination or a beautiful village to visit on Sundays; it is a guardian of traditions, so important that they are still respected and promoted today.

For those who want to live every moment and experience, we have holiday homes here too, just a stone's throw from the wonders of nature for which it is famous and appreciated.
